Ruturaj Gaikwad injury IPL 2022

The Chennai Super Kings preparatory camp is currently happening in Surat. One of the notable absentees so far has been star opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. The player missed India vs Sri Lanka T20I series due to a wrist injury and is currently recovering at the NCA in Bengaluru. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has now given an update about Rutu's fitness.

CSK CEO gives an important update

While speaking to Insidesport, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, "Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to join the CSK camp in Surat by 17th or 18th March." He further added that the Maharashtra opener is yet to clear his fitness test.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is vital to CSK's plans in IPL 2022. He had won the Orange Cap in 2021 and was deservedly retained by the franchise. Now that his opening partner Faf du Plessis is not in the CSK squad, Rutu will now have to lead the batting line-up.

Injury issues for CSK

While Ruturaj Gaikwad's injury problem looks likely to be resolved, the case with Deepak Chahar is different. The player was hired by CSK for INR 14 crores at the auctions. He was designated to lead the bowling attack and since CSK spent a lot on him, they could not buy another reliable Indian pacer. Now that Deepak Chahar is set to miss the chunk of IPL, CSK will have to define a different tactic for the initial games. The likes of Tushar Deshpande might get a chance while Dwayne Bravo and Adam Milne will lead the pace attack. In the spin department, CSK anyways has the services of Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali to rely upon.
