BCCI source says 'no need to make an issue' out of Indian players' restaurant visit

The Indian cricket team has landed in a new controversy in the first week of 2021 itself. Some members of the Indian squad went to a restaurant to have food. One Indian cricket team fan spotted them at the restaurant.

He decided to pay the bill for the team and also shared full details on social media. Later, that fan disclosed that he even hugged Rishabh Pant, which is supposed to be a bio-bubble breach. However, that fan later clarified that he wrote it out of excitement.

The fan shared a video clip and photos of Indian cricketers. The Twitter users noted that the masks were not properly on the players’ faces at the time of clicking the pictures. Hence, even some fans agreed that there was a bio-bubble breach.

A BCCI source has stated that the story was just blown out of proportion. Here’s what the source told ANI on Saturday (January 2):

"The boys had just gone out to a restaurant to get some food. They followed all the necessary protocols and their temperature was checked and proper sanitization was done before they sat on the table. There is no need to make an issue out of this. As for the whole question of a fan being hugged by Pant, the fan has himself confessed that he had said that out of excitement," the source said.

Thus, the BCCI source confirmed that the Indian cricketers followed all protocols and there was no need to create a controversy out of this visit. The Indian cricket team is currently in Australia and will play the third Test match in Sydney from January 7.

Rohit Sharma recently joined the Indian squad in the bio-bubble. Along with Rohit, Navdeep Saini, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, and Shubman Gill had been to the restaurant.
