'Two more World Cups to go' - Chris Gayle says he still has five more years of cricket left in him

West Indies’ Universe Boss Chris Gayle has confirmed that he does not plan to quit cricket anytime soon. Gayle believed that he still has five more years of cricket left in him. The left-handed batsman stated this to ANI in an interview on Friday (January 1).

Gayle has been very active in the T20 leagues. He will be the key to West Indies cricket team’s success in the upcoming T20 World Cups. Gayle has been one of the best batsmen in the history of T20 cricket. The southpaw scored 288 runs in just seven innings for the Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020.

He even played in the Ultimate Kricket Challenge, a competition that also featured Yuvraj Singh, Rashid Khan, Andre Russell, Eoin Morgan, and Kevin Pietersen. Here’s what Gayle told ANI:

"Oh yes, of course, no retirement plan as of now. I believe that I still have five more years, so before 45 no chance. And yes, two more World Cups to go.”

In case you didn’t know, there will be back-to-back ICC T20 World Cup events in 2021 and 2022. India will host the global T20 event this year while Australia, which was originally going to host the T20 World Cup in 2020, will host the event in 2022 now.

Chris Gayle has played much cricket in both countries. He has been an integral part of the IPL, while he even played in the Big Bash League. Hence, the West Indies cricket team will have high hopes from him.

The West Indies team is the only one to lift the ICC T20 World Cup trophy on two occasions. With the presence of Chris Gayle almost confirmed, the West Indies will start as the favorites to defend their title in India. Along with Gayle, the team could also comprise Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, and other stars.
