Will Ravichandran Ashwin play for Delhi Capitals in the next match? Here's the latest injury update
Ravichandran Ashwin played a massive role in Delhi Capitals’ victory last night against Kings XI Punjab. The right-arm off-spinner, who was the captain of Punjab in IPL 2018 and 2019, bowled a terrific spell of 2/2 in one over.
Unfortunately, before he could continue on the field, Ashwin picked up a shoulder injury and rushed back to the pavilion. Former Rajasthan Royals skipper Ajinkya Rahane entered the field as a substitute fielder and Ashwin did not come back after that incident.
It was a huge blow to Delhi Capitals as Mayank Agarwal managed to tie the match in the end. The Delhi-based franchise sneaked away with a Super Over win eventually, with Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis being the hero for the team.
Since Ashwin looked in discomfort after the injury, captain Shreyas Iyer was asked if the injury was a serious one. The skipper clarified that even though Ashwin was hurt, he was ready to play for the Delhi Capitals in the next match. However, he clarified that the team’s physio will make the final decision on this matter. Ashwin himself shared an update with the fans later on Twitter as he wrote:
I was in pain as I left the field last night, but the pain has settled down and the scan reports are pretty encouraging too. Thanks for all your love and support. 🙏 #IPL2020

Delhi Capitals would be happy that their next game is after four days on Friday. They will battle the Chennai Super Kings on 25th September. Since there are many good players of spin in the Chennai squad, Delhi will hope that Ashwin recovers before the game. The Tamil Nadu-based spinner is likely to recover but If he is not ready, the Capitals will have to bring in Amit Mishra in the team. The right-arm leg-spinner has a good amount of UAE experience, and he is also the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL history.
