5 Players Who Became IPL Regulars After Stint With RPS

When Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were away from the competition, Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat were the franchises that had replaced them. While Gujarat Lions were decent, RPS reached the finals on one occasion before leaving the tournament. Many cricketers enjoyed their spell at the Pune outfit. We talk about five players who became IPL regulars after stint with RPS.

MS Dhoni was the captain for the first season, while Steve Smith took the responsibility in the second edition. Most of the cricketers in this team came from the Rajasthan and the CSK outfits. Here are five who became IPL regulars after the stint with RPS.

1. Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur had been doing well in the domestic competitions but was not able to leave a mark in IPL until then. However, for RPS, the Mumbaikar performed brilliantly and was one of the highest wicket-takers for them across the two seasons. After that season, CSK picked him up, and there has been no stopping the pacer since that stint. At the moment, he finds himself across all the formats in the Indian Team apart from being the frontline pacer for Chennai Super Kings.

2. Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar did not pick a lot of wickets and even did not get many games to play, but it seems that he left an impression on the likes of MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming during that stint. CSK then picked him up at the 2018 auctions and tasked him with the responsibility of bowling during the power play. Deepak also responded with some fine performances. After a brilliant show in IPL, the Rajasthan pacer also got a chance to feature in the Indian Team. For CSK, he is still the first-choice option to take the ball in the first over.

3. Rahul Chahar

Rahul Chahar is also one of the players who became IPL regulars after stint with RPS. Like his brother, Chahar also did not get too many games but played really well when he got his chance. Despite being young, Rahul impressed with his maturity and earned a well-deserving bid by the Mumbai Indians. For the past three seasons, the youngster has been the premier spinner for the Rohit Sharma-led squad. He has even won two trophies while being a regular starter. Rahul is also slowly making moves in the Indian Team.

4. Washington Sundar

Rahul Tripathi had a fine campaign at the top of the order for Rising Pune Supergiant. The franchise had too many conservative batsmen like Steve Smith and Ajinkya Rahane at the top, and it was Rahul who did the job of taking on the bowlers. He also maintained his form in pressure situations, and that was the hallmark of his game. After RPS, Rahul played a few seasons in Rajasthan Royals before making the switch to KKR. Although he got only a few games in IPL 2020, looking at the current scenario, he could play more matches in IPL 2021.

5. Rahul Tripathi

Washington Sundar had a memorable stint with RPS. It was during his stay at the franchise that the Tamil Nadu spinner developed his skills of bowling in the power play. After that, he has become famous for his ability of bowling well in the first six overs. Currently, he plays for RCB and is a consistent feature of the XI. Washi has also made a mark with the Indian Team and looks set to have a great future.
