5 Youngsters Who Could Become An IPL Captain Within The Next 3 Years

There is a trend that is very popular in the Indian Premier League. Franchises have been inclined towards appointing a youngster as the captain of a team. In the past, teams such as Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have followed the trend. Recently, Rajasthan Royals have also joined the bandwagon. In this article, we take a look at the list of five youngsters who could become an IPL captain within the next three years.

IPL 2022 will see two new teams joining the fray. Hence, the hunt to appoint an Indian captain will be one of the topmost priorities for these franchises. With Eoin Morgan and David Warner having failed in IPL 2021, there is a possibility that teams could prefer an Indian captain. Hence, a few Indian youngsters could get a chance.

1) Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan is one of the five youngsters who could become an IPL captain within the next three years. The Jharkhand player has already led the Indian U19 team and has sufficient experience with the responsibility. In IPL, as well, Ishan has proved his mettle as a player and will occupy an important part of any team that he will represent in the future. Domestic wicket-keeper is an important vacancy in any franchise, and Ishan is one of the best options available. Hence, there would be issues with regard to his place in a playing XI.

2) Prithvi Shaw

Apart from captaining the Indian U19 squad at the World Cup, Shaw has already led the senior Mumbai squad. He also has trophies to show for. A fearless cricketer, Shaw is one of the best openers in the country. He has done well in the T20 format and just needs consistency to complete his development. With two new teams coming in, there will be a hunt for a domestic captaincy choice. If not retained by Delhi, Shaw will be an option.

3) Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad is very new to IPL but has already won the Orange Cap and has shown that he belongs here. He is also someone who has a calm head on his shoulders. A good opener, Rutu can be a captain within a few years. If CSK retains him and after MS Dhoni retires, he could be one of the serious contenders for the role.

4) Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is one of the five youngsters who could become an IPL captain within the next three years. In fact, it would not be a surprise if Gill would captain KKR from the next season itself. The Punjab player has led his state in the past and has decent experience. He is a quality top-order batsman and has improved his T20 batting in recent weeks. Hence, he can be a good captaincy option for the franchises.

5) Washington Sundar

Compared to the players of his age group, Washington Sundar made has more experience at the highest level than many of them. He is a thinking cricketer and has succeeded on multiple occasions in pressure situations. Washi also has the experience of being a captain in TNPL. A tailor-made off-spinner for the T20 format, Washi just needs to work on his big-hitting now. A composed character, he can also be an IPL captain within a few years.
