7 players aged 40+ who have played in T20 World Cup history
T20 World Cup is one of the most prestigious tournaments in cricket history. It is the dream of every individual pursuing the career as a cricketer to play in the T20 WC for his country once. Very few have been able to achieve this feat.
While some of them played in the T20 WC when they were 20 years old, some players aged more than 40 have also played this tournament. Chris Gayle will be the latest addition to this list once the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 WC gets underway. But before that, let's take a look at the seven players aged more than 40 who have played for their countries in the previous T20 World Cups.
1. Khurram Khan, ICC T20 World Cup 2014
UAE have played only one T20 WC. In that tournament, Khurram Khan, aged 40+ played for the Gulf nation and scored 73 runs in three innings.
2. Munir Dar, ICC T20 World Cup 2014
Another player aged more than 40 years who participated in the ICC T20 WC 2014 was Munir Dar. He played for the Hong Kong cricket team in that tournament.
3. Ryan Campbell, ICC T20 World Cup 2016
Many Indian fans would remember Ryan Campbell because he played for Australia and also Ahmedabad Rockets in the ICL. But what not many would know is the fact that Campbell played for Hong Kong in ICC T20 World Cup 2016, aged 40+.
4. Sanath Jayasuriya
Sanath Jayasuriya was 40+ when he played for Sri Lanka in ICC T20 World Cup 2010. Unfortunately, he could not perform his best as he only scored 15 runs in six innings.
5. Brad Hogg
Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg played two T20 World Cups aged 40+. He represented his country in 2010 and 2012 T20 World Cups after celebrating his 40th birthday.
6. Najeeb Amar
Another Hong Kong player to feature on this list is Najeeb Amar. He played for Hong Kong in the 2014 edition of the mega event hosted by Bangladesh.
7. Ryan ten Doeschate
Dutch all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate recently played for the Netherlands in the 2021 T20 WC. He is 40+, but the all-rounder failed to fire this year.
