The first match between England and India of the five match Test series ended in a draw after the fifth day of the play was completed washed out due to the rain.

The Indian cricket team began their five-match Test series against England with the first match played at Nottingham from 4th August. The Indian team was in cruise control of the game as they just needed 157 runs on the last day of play with nine wickets remaining and a minimum of 90 overs; however, the rain God has a different plan for the day.

Former England cricketer, now commentator Michael Vaughan took to his Twitter account to comment on the condition. He wrote, "Looks like Rain may be saving India here," in a funny way.

However, he got the medicine of his own when an Australian journalist trolled the former England batsman. Australian journalist Chloe-Amanda Bailey took to her Twitter account and retweeted Michael Vaughan's tweet saying, "Saving them from beating England."

India were favorites on Day 5 against England

Talking about the match, the first of the five-match Test series between India and England began at Nottingham's Trent Bridge Stadium on 4th August.

England's skipper Joe Root won the toss and opted to bat first. England dealt an early blow as opener Rory Burns was dismissed in the first over itself. The English team got all-out for 183 runs, with captain Joe Root being the top scorer. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were the pick of the bowlers with 4 and 3 wickets, respectively.

In reply to England's 183, Team India put up 278 runs on the board with opening batsman KL Rahul the top scorer with 84 runs and a crucial 56 runs from down the order from Ravindra Jadeja. As a result, the Indian team took a 95 runs lead.

A brilliant bowling display in the 2nd inning by Jasprit Bumrah, who picked up five wickets, stopped the England team at just 303 runs, all thanks to captain Joe Root's hundred (109 off 172 balls).

England putting 303 runs on the board means India needed 209 runs from half of the last session from day four and an entire day five. India got off to a good start and scored 52 runs with the loss of just KL Rahul's wicket, who scored 26 runs.

With India just needing 157 runs to win, it was all looking like an easy run chase for India. However, the rain God has different plans for the day, and as the whole day of play was washed out due to rain, meaning that the first match of the five-match series as well the first match of the World Test Championship 2021-2023 ended in a draw with both sharing points.
