2 franchises that could have selected a different captain for WPL 2023

The first season of the Women's Premier League will start on March 4th. For each franchise, it is important for each franchise to select the right skipper. While one aspect is to help the team get the best leadership on the field, it is also important that the franchise will have a face from a brand perspective. In this regard, it is a careful decision that each franchise has taken to fill the role of the captain. However, after the decisions are made, a few franchises looked to have faltered, at least, as per the view of many. On that note, in this article, we take a look at two franchises that could have selected a different captain for WPL 2023.

1) UP Warriorz - Alyssa Healy

It was actually a shock to see Alyssa Healy appointed as the skipper of UP Warriorz. The team had the services of Deepti Sharma, who has led in the Women's Exhibition IPL tournament and is also quite experienced to do the job. Moreover, she is from Uttar Pradesh and the fans of the franchise would have loved someone from the state to don the role of the captain. Since this is the first season of WPL, it is important to take care of the domestic players and in this regard, Deepti would have been a better option than Healy.

2) Gujarat Giants - Beth Mooney

Gujarat Giants is one of the two franchises that could have selected a different captain for WPL 2023. Ash Gardener is one of the best players in the game right now. Beth Mooney has experience but may not fit the role of captaincy for a franchise that also has Gardener. Therefore, the Adani owned franchise also features on this list.
