2 top cricketing nations that never hosted the T20 World Cup

Although the T20 World Cup is supposed to happen once every two years, this pattern has been changed due to various reasons on many occasions. While there was a five-year gap between the 2016 and 2021 editions, within 12 months, there have also been cases wherein two T20 WCs have happened. Almost every top nation has got a chance to host the event so far since 2007. However, some of the established cricketing nations are yet to host the T20 World Cup. In this article, we take a look at two top cricketing nations that never hosted the T20 World Cup.

1) Pakistan

Due to obvious reasons mainly related to security, Pakistan has been far away from hosting any ICC events. They are set to host the Champions Trophy soon but it will take a few more editions before we see them playing as the host for the T20 World Cup. In the 2021 T20 WC, Pakistan reached the semi-finals and left many impressed with their performances. The team has a strong fanbase and till now, for no fault of theirs, they have been denied the opportunity to watch big encounters at the stadium.

2) New Zealand

New Zealand is one of the top cricketing nations that never hosted the T20 World Cup. 2021 T20 World Cup finalists New Zealand are yet to host the T20 World Cup. They co-hosted the ODI World Cup in 2015 but have not got an opportunity since then. It has already been announced in 2028, the T20 World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand. Hence, the Kiwis would have waited for almost two decades to host the T20 WC for the first time. It needs to be noted that Australia is the host of the 2022 T20 World Cup. New Zealand is also one of the favourites for the event.
