3 nations that could have a captaincy change before ODI World Cup 2023

Teams usually plan for around a year before a major tournament like the ODI World Cup. However, at times, unavoidable circumstances could lead a few teams to make changes in some key departments such as the captaincy. Such a decision could be taken with regard to some teams before the 2023 ODI WC. On that note, in this article, we take a look at three nations that could have a captaincy change before ODI World Cup 2023.

1) Pakistan

Pakistan is one of the nations that could have a captaincy change before the ODI World Cup 2023. There are reports that Shan Masood might replace Babar Azam as the skipper of Pakistan's ODI setup. While the rumour might die down, it is a fact that Babar's captaincy is under threat, due to the team's performances and also the change in management of the board. Other options for the management include Mohammad Rizwan and if he stays fit, even Shaheen Afridi, too.

2) West Indies

After the 2022 T20 World Cup, Nicholas Pooran stepped down as the team's white-ball captain. Since then, the board has not identified his replacement. In fact, since August last year, the team has not played an ODI game. It is a serious problem and considering the team has very few capable options, yet another upset is looming large in the 2023 ODI WC.

3) South Africa

South Africa is also one of the nations that could have a captaincy change before the ODI World Cup 2023. Temba Bavuma's form has been inconsistent in recent months. With the likes of Dewald Brevis in top form, South Africa might take the decision to drop Bavuma from captaincy. The likes of Aiden Markram, Keshav Maharaj and David Miller could be considered as the replacement options for the board.
