3 nations that could have a captaincy change in Tests in 2023

The final of this cycle of the World Test Championship will happen this year at the Lord's. As expected, most teams will press the rest button to define their course for the next cycle. As a part of this, a few nations could have a change in personnel at the helm. On that note, in this article, we take a look at three nations that could have a captaincy change in Tests in 2023.

1) India

Rohit Sharma's fitness issues mean that after this WTC, he could be irregular in the Test squad. India could soon have to find a replacement. Jasprit Bumrah is an option and so is KL Rahul, if he performs well with the bat. Rishabh Pant, once he comes back from the ailment, is also an option.

2) Pakistan

Pakistan is one of the nations that could have a captaincy change in Tests in 2023. The subcontinent giant has been extremely poor at home in Tests. They did not win a single game this home season and for a team of Pakistan's stature, that is an embarrassment. Pakistan might as well replace Babar Azam as the skipper of the squad, which would help the team and also the player to focus on his leadership skills in the shorter formats of the game.

3) South Africa

The Proteas had an excellent chance to reach the finals of the World Test Championship this year. They still have a chance but it will all be down to India vs Australia series. Dean Elgar is a terrific batter and skipper but the Proteas could move on from him to develop the squad for the future. Aiden Markram or Temba Bavuma could be two of the options that the board might consider.
