3 players in recent IPL seasons who were net bowlers but got selected to the main squad for the same franchise

Being a net bowler of an IPL team is a good opportunity for a cricketer. While the player gets to learn from the established stars, if he leaves an impression, an opportunity could also present itself in the main squad. A few cricketers have made this shift in recent years and have actually been successful. On that note, in this article, we take a look at three players in recent IPL seasons who were net bowlers but got selected to the main squad for the same franchise.

1) Umran Malik - Sunirsers Hyderabad

Umran Malik is one of the players in recent IPL seasons who were net bowlers but got selected to the main squad for the same franchise. He was part of the SRH unit as a net bowler in IPL 2021. However, after T Natarajan got COVID, Umran was drafted into the main squad as a short-term COVID replacement. The Jammu & Kashmir pacer did not take long to leave an impression. He was then retained by the franchise and is now a prominent part of the team.

2) Akash Deep - Royal Challengers Bangalore

Bengal pacer Akash Deep was named as the replacement of Washington Sundar for the UAE phase of IPL 2021. He was earlier a net bowler with the same franchise. The player was picked up by RCB at IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions and even played a few games.

3) Mukesh Choudhary - Chennai Super Kings

Mukesh Choudhary is also one of the players in recent IPL seasons who were net bowlers but got selected to the main squad for the same franchise. He was a net bowler for CSK and at IPL 2022 Auctions, the franchise hired him. Since Deepak Chahar is ruled out, Mukesh has got a few games so far. He has done well till now, especially against Mumbai Indians. The left-arm pacer has helped CSK get a few wickets in the powerplay this season.
