4 Indians unlucky to miss out on the T20I squad against New Zealand

BCCI recently named the squad for the New Zealand T20Is. This would be India's immediate assignment after the 2022 T20 World Cup. Hence, it was interesting to see who is in the plans for the future. On that note, in this article, we look at four Indians unlucky to miss out on the T20I squad against New Zealand.

With the next T20 World Cup happening in 2024, India will be keen to trigger a transition. A lot of players need game time and hence, the management must start its plan right away. Therefore, there were some interesting selections by the selectors.

India squad for New Zealand T20Is: Hardik Pandya (C), Rishabh Pant (VC & WK), Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Surya Kumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson (WK), W Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Mohd. Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik.

1) Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw is one of the Indians unlucky to miss out on the T20I squad against New Zealand. Looking at India's slow starts in the powerplays, it was necessary that a naturally aggressive cricketer got a chance as the opener. However, despite being one of the best in the country, Shaw did not get a chance. He has been doing well recently and in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he even got a century. With so many things pointing towards his selection, Shaw still did not get a chance.

2) Ravi Bishnoi

It was shocking that Ravi Bishnoi did not find a place in the squad. Interestingly, he was part of the reserves for the T20 World Cup. Kuldeep Yadav has been given an opportunity while Chahal has been retained. Considering the tendency of the duo to leak runs, Bishnoi might have been a better selection.

3) Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan is also one of the players unlucky to miss out on the T20I squad against New Zealand. Yes, the Madhya Pradesh bowler might have been expensive in recent games but it is on pitches in Australia and New Zealand that he can be the most dangerous. He is a 'hit the deck' bowler who can also generate pace. Such attributes are necessary for a pacer in New Zealand. Therefore, Avesh will consider himself unlucky for not getting a chance.

4) Ruturaj Gaikwad

India's regular Top 3 has been rested and yet, Gaikwad did not get a chance in the squad. This is despite him doing well in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Shubman Gill has been selected in the squad and this could mean that Ruturaj will now have to do extremely well in the IPL to get another opportunity,
