4 former Indian cricketers who could become an IPL Head Coach soon

 

It is a matter of time before IPL franchises start banking more on Indian coaches. In recent years, we have seen the likes of Anil Kumble and Sanjay Bangar get good opportunities. Chandrakant Pandit will be KKR's coach from IPL 2023. Along these lines, we could see more former Indian cricketers becoming the Head Coaches of IPL franchises. On that note, in this article, we take a look at four former Indian cricketers who could become IPL Head Coach soon.

Apart from the tactical perspective, it is necessary that a coach keeps the team together. It is a soft topic but will be helpful. With Indian Coaches, they will connect better with the Indian youngsters in the unit. While this is one of the reasons, off late, we have seen Indian names proving their tactical acumen which further strengthens their position.

1) Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir is one of the former Indian cricketers who could become IPL Head Coach soon. Currently, he is the Mentor of Lucknow Super Giants. However, if you take a look at the team construction, he seems to have had a big say in the decisions. Moreover, having won two trophies as a skipper, Gambhir has the formula to succeed in the competition. He might continue in the current role but it is inevitable that he will become the Head Coach of an IPL franchise in the future.

2) Abhishek Nayar

After Brendon McCullum became the Head Coach of the England Test Team, many predicted that Abhishek Nayar would fill the vacancy at KKR. However, the franchise went in for Chandrakant Pandit while Nayar was made the Head Coach of Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL. Nayar is known for his coaching prowess and he is credited for the turnaround of many cricketers including the likes of Dinesh Karthik. He also has experience being an assistant coach and hence, could be promoted in the future.

3) Ajit Agarkar

Ajit Agarkar is also one of the former Indian cricketers who could become IPL Head Coach soon. The Mumbai cricketer was the assistant coach at Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. With this move, it is clear that he is looking at a top coaching position in the future. Agarkar is an intelligent cricketer and if he can work on his skills, he can surely be in the reckoning when it comes to the Head Coach of IPL franchises.

4) Irfan Pathan

At the moment, Irfan is completely focused on broadcasting. However, if you take a look at his record, Irfan has a great eye for talent and also did well when he was part of the Jammu & Kashmir cricket team. In fact, the likes of Abdul Samad and Umran Malik were first mentored by him. Hence, it can be said that it is just a matter of time before Irfan focuses on a switch in his career, at least, with respect to the IPL.
