4 popular players who will play the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2022

The 2022 T20 World Cup will start on October 16th in Australia. This is for the first time that a few popular cricketers will be a part of the event. In this article, we take a look at 4 popular players who will play in the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2022.

After 2016, the next edition was held in 2021. A few players missed the 2021 T20 WC and hence, for these cricketers, the upcoming event will be their T20 WC debut. It is interesting that a few of these players are established T20 stars but will be making their T20 WC debut only in 2022.

1) Yuzvendra Chahal (India)

Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the popular players who will play in the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2022. Chahal made his debut in 2016 and went on to become an integral part of the Indian limited-overs squads. Especially in T20Is, at one stage, he was the highest wicket-taker for India. In fact, he still holds the record jointly with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Last year, the selectors sidelined Chahal and included Rahul Chahar because they preferred a fast leg-spinner in the XI. However, since then, Chahal has been in fine form and also won the Purple Cap in IPL 2022. Therefore, he is the first-choice spinner for the Indian Team. That said, if his inconsistent form continues, he might lose his spot in the XI.

2) Sam Curran (England)

The English all-rounder had to lose out on an opportunity in the 2021 T20 WC due to an injury. However, Curran will be a part of the upcoming edition. The youngster is one of the fine all-rounders going around. In recent months, he has had injury issues but he is slowly coming back into his groove. The England Team Management will have huge expectations from him.

3) Lockie Ferguson (New Zealand)

Lockie Ferguson is also one of the popular players who will play in the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2022. Similar to the others, Lockie has had injury issues and it was also there last year. At the 2022 T20 WC, though, he will be an important part of the Kiwi pace attack. His performance could define the fate of Kiwis in the event.

4) Rovman Powell (West Indies)

Rovman Powell is the vice-captain of the West Indies squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, interestingly, he was not part of the previous edition nor in the past. The big-hitter will don the role of the finisher for his side. West Indies have been in poor form and it is necessary for Rovman to do well so that his team could win a few matches.
