5 Indians who might not be selected for the India SA T20I series after an unconvincing display in IPL 2022

Team India will take on South Africa in a five-match T20I series starting on 9th June. Keeping the 2022 T20 World Cup in mind, the upcoming tournament against the Proteas will be an important one. In this article, we take a look at five Indians who might not be selected for the India SA T20I series after an unconvincing display in IPL 2022.

Although IPL form and international form does have a clear line of difference, the selectors could still consider the factor of IPL form. This is mainly because IPL is also of good level and there is a sufficient sample size to judge the ability of the players. Going by this, a few players could find it hard to get selected for the T20I series against SA.

1) Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur had recently done well in T20 cricket but for Delhi Capitals this season, he has been average. The Mumbai cricketer has struggled to collect wickets and is also leaking runs in crucial stages. With the bat, too, there have not been fireworks although there was a scope for it in many games. Considering these factors, he may not get to play in the upcoming tournament.

2) Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan is one of the Indians who might not be selected for the India SA T20I series after an unconvincing display in IPL 2022. In the previous tournaments, Ishan has been used as the opener for India. However, for Mumbai Indians, he is not making too many runs. His strike rate has also dropped. Hence, with the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad returning back to form and if KL Rahul is available for the series, Ishan might have to give up his spot.

3) Venkatesh Iyer

One of the main reasons why Venkatesh Iyer played for India was because of the absence of Hardik Pandya. Now that the Gujarat Titans skipper is back on the field, Venkatesh Iyer might not get a chance. Moreover, his personal form is also not great. Hence, he is unlikely to be part of the T20I tournament against SA.

 

4) Mohammed Siraj

Siraj is one of the players who might not be selected for the India SA T20I series after an unconvincing display in IPL 2022. There were a lot of expectations from the player. However, he has failed to justify it. Players like Avesh Khan and Prasidh Krishna are doing very well. Hence, Siraj might not feature in the Indian T20I squad.

 

5) Washington Sundar

Sundar has been extremely vulnerable to injuries in recent months. His fitness has been a big disappointment this season. When he played, as well, he could not return with match-winning performances. The Indian management might want to give him a break to recover completely. At the same time, the management can utilize someone like Kuldeep Yadav, who has been in good form. This could mean that the Tamil Nadu man will miss out on the final squad.
