5 South African-born cricketers who have signed up for UAE T20 League
CSA T20 League and the UAE T20 League (International League T20) are in a race to sign cricketers. Both tournaments are likely to happen around the same time next year. Hence, both the boards are active in the market to get the best overseas talent to play in their league. In this article, we take a look at five South African-born cricketers who have signed up for UAE T20 League.
The CSA T20 League is a prestigious tournament for the Rainbow Nation. Yet, some players from the country such as Imran Tahir have signed up to play in the UAE. Some of the South African-born cricketers have also signed on the dotted line for the UAE T20 League. We take a look at some of the names in the below sections.
1) Tom Curran
While Sam Curran will turn up for the MI Cape Town franchise in the CSA T20 League, his brother Tom Curran will play in the UAE. Tom was born in South Africa but later shifted along with his family to the UK. He has consistently played for England but has had injury problems recently. Hence, the UAE T20 League will be important for his career.
2) David Wiese
David Wiese is one of the South African-born cricketers who have signed up for the UAE T20 League. The all-rounder has played for South Africa before but he recently switched loyalties to Namibia. Since he is very close to 40, David might struggle to find opportunities in the CSA T20 League, which is a domestic competition. Since nine foreigners are allowed in the UAE T20 League playing XI, the all-rounder will get better chances.
3) Colin Munro
Colin Munro has been a good player for New Zealand in the T20I format. He might not have a place in the squad now but in the T20 leagues, he is popular. Even he has signed for the UAE league instead of the league in his birth nation.
4) Colin Ingram
Interestingly, Colin Ingram is also a part of this list of South African-born cricketers who have signed up for the UAE T20 League. Essentially, he is still a South African player but he will turn up in the UAE. Considering his age, he could have been a good domestic signing in South Africa. That said, the scheduling is still not clear and Ingram could as well play both tournaments.
5) Bradley Wheal
Bradley Wheal is also one of the South African-born cricketers who have signed up for the UAE T20 League. The Durban-born cricketer plays for Scotland as a fast bowler. Although initially, he played cricket in South Africa, he later had to move in search of more opportunities. He was recently signed by the MI Emirates for the UAE T20 League.
