5 cricketers part of the 2019 ODI World Cup but nowhere close to the Indian ODI squad now

Team India has started its preparation for the 2023 ODI World Cup. There are still a few concerns but the core of the squad is ready. Interestingly, a few players part of the previous ODI World Cup is not in the picture right now. In this article, we take a look at five cricketers part of the 2019 ODI World Cup but are nowhere close to the Indian ODI squad now.

It is common for teams to move on from certain cricketers. Especially if the trophy is not won, the management is usually ruthless with certain cricketers. We take a look at some of the names below:

Note: We have not considered MS Dhoni, who has retired from the game.

1) Vijay Shankar

Vijay Shankar is one of the cricketers who were a part of the 2019 ODI World Cup but is nowhere close to the Indian ODI squad now. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder was a surprise selection by the management for the event. The player had done well with the bat in a few preceding tournaments. Since he also adds value as a bowler, he was selected ahead of Ambati Rayudu. However, Vijay suffered an injury during the tournament and had to be replaced.

2) Kedar Jadhav

Thanks to his skills in the lower order with the bat and some off-spin bowling, Kedar Jadhav was backed for a pretty long time in the ODI setup. Although Kedar did have a good start to his career, frequent injuries and poor form led to his exclusion from the squad. He does not even have an IPL contract at the moment.

3) Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is also one of the cricketers who were a part of the 2019 ODI World Cup but is nowhere close to the Indian ODI squad now. Although Bhuvi is part of the Indian Team, he is not in the plans for the ODI squad. The likes of Deepak Chahar and Mohammed Siraj are the frontrunners to bowl in the powerplay along with Jasprit Bumrah.

4) Dinesh Karthik

DK earned a comeback to the T20 setup after his brilliant show in IPL 2022. However, it has been a while since he has played in the ODI format. He is certainly not in the plans for Team India when it comes to ODI cricket. In fact, he may not be considered for T20Is, too.

5) Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal replaced Vijay Shankar in the 2019 ODI WC squad. While he has got his chances in Tests, it has not been a great ride in the white-ball formats. The player is suffering from a serious loss of form and hence, is not being considered by Team India. Hence, the Karnataka skipper is also one of those who were a part of the 2019 ODI World Cup but is nowhere close to the Indian ODI squad now.
