5 teams that could go after Glenn Maxwell in IPL Auction 2021

Glenn Maxwell has returned to the IPL Auction pool once again as the Kings XI Punjab released him after a disastrous IPL season in the United Arab Emirates. Maxwell scored only 108 runs and took three wickets in 13 matches for the IPL 2014 runners-up.

As Punjab had signed him for a massive 10.75 Crores price in the auction, they decided against retaining Glenn Maxwell and increasing their funds for the IPL 2021 Auction. Kings XI Punjab have even opened up an overseas slot, following Maxwell’s release.

Even though Glenn Maxwell could not impress the fans in IPL 2020, he is likely to receive another contract soon. The reason behind it is Maxwell has returned to form in the white-ball arena. Here are the five teams that could possibly run after Glenn in the IPL 2021 Auction.

5. Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians have four overseas slots available in their squad. They released their overseas fast bowlers Mitchell McClenaghan, James Pattinson, Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Lasith Malinga before the auction.

Even Sherfane Rutherford lost his contract. MI does not have a back-up option for Kieron Pollard now. Also, Maxwell could score big runs at the Wankhede Stadium. Hence, MI might sign Glenn Maxwell.

4. Kings XI Punjab

The Kings XI Punjab could have released Glenn Maxwell due to his hefty price. Perhaps, they could offer him one more chance to prove himself by signing him for a lower amount.

Maxwell could perfectly fit in the KXIP batting lineup with the likes of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, and Sarfaraz Khan. Thus, KXIP could be in the race to sign him.

3. Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals have let go of their captain Steve Smith. They have a fiery batting lineup now with the likes of Sanju Samson, Rahul Tewatia, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, and Jofra Archer.

The addition of Glenn Maxwell will transform RR’s lineup into a stellar batting lineup that could destroy any bowling attack. On top of that, the destructive duo of Maxwell and David Miller could also reunite at the Rajasthan Royals if RR sign Maxwell.

2. Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings have only one overseas spot available in their squad. So, they need a proper all-rounder who could bat in the middle-order and also give a few overs to the team.

Glenn Maxwell is a player who perfectly fits that requirement. He can bat at number four for CSK. Ruturaj Gaikwad could open the innings with Faf du Plessis, while Raina, Maxwell, and MS Dhoni could be the next three batsmen.

1. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore have increased their purse by leaps and bounds by releasing Chris Morris, Shivam Dube, Isuru Udana, and Moeen Ali ahead of the 2021 season. They can go big for any player in the IPL 2021 Auction.

Glenn Maxwell should be present on their wishlist because he has a T20I hundred in Bengaluru. Also, he can bat at number four for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
