"Dhoni told me..."- Harbhajan reveals the match-winning advice got from MSD during the Ind vs Pak 2011 WC thriller

India won their last World Cup more than a decade ago, in 2011, at home. That World Cup triumph was only the second time that the Men in Blue put their hands on the ODI World Cup trophy after 1983. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India became the first ever team to win a World Cup at home.

That 2011 campaign has stuck in the minds of every Indian fan as one of the most memorable moments in Indian cricket history. Often, we have seen many former cricketers and fans recall their favourite moments from the 2011 World Cup.

It was the last World Cup for the legendary Indian batsman, Sachin Tendulkar, and the team gave him the best farewell gift of his 22-year-long fantastic career. India lifted the cup by beating Sri Lanka in the finals, but before that they had to go through the defending champions, Australia, in the quarter-finals.

However, prior to that, India faced arch rivals Pakistan in a nail-biting game in Mohali. Batting first, India made 260/9 in their 50 overs. Sachin played a brilliant innings of 85 runs off 155 balls in the first innings. India started well with the ball to take some early wickets.

But Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq was playing a solid innings at one end. He added a vital partnership with wicket-keeper batsman Umar Akmal, who was looking to take on the Indian bowlers. He was looking good on 28 off just 24 balls, including a boundary and two maximums.

However, then the Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, came up with a special mantra to dismiss the wicket-keeper batsman and asked Harbhajan Singh to make a change in his bowling. And it resulted in a breakthrough which totally changed the whole scenario of the game in India's favour.

In an interaction on Star Sports "Dil se India", Bhajji recalled the advice he got from MSD. He said that he was not bowling well and had conceded 26-27 runs in five overs. The former off-spinner revealed that MSD asked him to change his side and bowl from around the wicket.

He said, "Dhoni told me, 'Bhajju pa, aap vahan se daaloge' (around the wicket). Kamran (Umar) was playing good, so was Misbah. So I came to bowl, and on the very first ball, I got the wicket of Kamran (Umar) Akmal as I bowled around the wicket. He completely missed the ball.”

However, once the partnership was broken, Pakistan totally lost the plot. Abdul Razzaq (3) and Shahid Afridi (19) got out cheaply, and in the end, Misbah (56), who was the lone saviour, also lost his wicket. Pakistan hot all out for 231 runs in 49.5 and India won the match by 29 runs.
