"I'd like to play there" - Temba Bavuma aspires to compete in the IPL one day

Temba Bavuma, the Proteas' limited-overs captain, has expressed his desire to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at some point in the future and to head one of the prestigious franchises. After Quinton de Kock stood down as South Africa's white-ball captain, Bavuma was selected. He will captain his country in the next five-match T20I series against India, which begins on June 9.

Bavuma has established himself as a consistent batter in all formats. He made his Test debut against the West Indies. He has also scored 722 runs in 19 One-Day Internationals and 501 runs in 21 Twenty20 Internationals. He emerged as a captaincy candidate due to his continuous performances for the team.

"I'd like to participate in the game. The more impressive my performances are, the more likely this opportunity becomes. I've also formed a fantasy of being a team captain. That's something I'm not sure of. That's something I'd like to do as well. But first and foremost, I'd like to join a team," Bavuma told Cricket Monthly.

In the just ended IPL 2022, many players from the South African and Indian sides were visible. During their time with the Proteas this season, the players were really remarkable. Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Anrich Nortje, and Marco Jansen are among the players who participated in the IPL and will appear in the forthcoming series.

The Bavuma-led team arrived in Delhi ahead of their first match on June 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (Thursday). While India aims to extend their 12-match T20I victory streak and set a new global record, South Africa will prepare to face the top-ranked T20I team and terminate their run. The two teams previously played in a three-match Test series and three-match ODI series, both of which South Africa won 2-1 and 3-0.
