"Nobody will ask questions if..": Sunil Gavaskar explains how Indian star can silence critics

Sanju Samson has all of the necessary talent and ability to not only become one of the finest players in the country, but also to compete for a spot in the Indian squad. However, in the limited opportunities that have been offered to him, the Kerala cricketer has been unable to justify his skill.

The upcoming T20I series between India and Ireland will provide him with a wonderful opportunity to not just score large runs but also maintain himself in contention for a spot in Team India for the T20 World Cup. Sunil Gavaskar, a former Indian cricket captain, noted that while he believes in Sanju Samson's talents, the wicketkeeper-batter needs to improve his shot selection.

Sanju Samson has only played one ODI and 13 T20Is for Team India, scoring 46 and 174 runs, respectively, because of his erratic record. Gavaskar observed on the sidelines of the recent India vs South Africa 5th T20I match in Bengaluru, which was called off due to rain, "Everyone deserves a second opportunity, but you must take advantage of it. Sanju Samson's shot selection while playing for India is what has brought him down, despite the fact that we all know how talented he is”.

Sunil Gavaskar also said that if shot selection of Sanju samson gets improved, he will be more consistent in getting runs for Team India or Rajasthan Royals. Hardik Pandya was given the captaincy of the Indian squad for the two-match T20I series against Ireland later this month, with usual skipper Rohit Sharma and other key members of Team India already in England.

While Rishabh Pant will travel to England, Ishan Kishan and veteran Dinesh Karthik will travel to Ireland with the team. Apart from Sanju Samson, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh have also been selected for the Ireland series by Team India.
