Ricky Ponting picks India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2022 match winner

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has backed India to beat Pakistan in the group stage match to be held on the 28th of August in the Asia Cup 2022. The Rohit Sharma-led side would be looking to win their third consecutive Asia Cup title when they take the pitch in UAE later this month.

The competition will also serve as a preparation for the T20 World Cup to be held later this year in Australia. Meanwhile, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting while speaking to ICC review show said that he is backing Team India to pickup the win over the Pakistan in their group stage encounter in the Asia Cup 2022.

He also added that he is not taking anything away from Pakistan as they are an incredible cricketing nation that continues to feature superstar players.

"I will stick with India to win that clash against Pakistan. That is taking nothing away from Pakistan because they are an incredible cricket nation that continues to present out-and-out superstar players," said the former Aussie skipper.

Regarding the competition between India and Pakistan, Ponting said that looking back in the last 15 or 20 years as a cricket lover and as a cricket observer that whenever there is a match like this altitude, it is better to sit and watch.

Last time when the Asia Cup was played in a T20 format, the Indian team had won that edition. This time also Team India's effort will be the same. However, Pakistan's team has also improved in the last few years.

Last year in the T20 World Cup held in UAE, Pakistan team defeated the Indian team by a massive margin of 10 wickets while chasing more than 150 runs. It has to be seen as to how both the teams will fare in the Asia Cup 2022 after that.

After the league stage match between the two, there can be a match between India and Pakistan in the Super Four as well. Apart from this, if Team India and Pakistan go to the final, then there is a possibility of a match there too. However, when the time comes, other things will become clear.
