Corey Anderson in line to play cricket for the United States of America

Kiwi all-rounder Corey Anderson won the hearts of many fans with his entertaining knocks in white-ball cricket. The southpaw had become an asset for the New Zealand cricket team. Later, he joined the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2014 and played a pivotal role in their journey to the playoffs in that season.

In 2018, Anderson became a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. Unfortunately, the left-handed batsman had the talent to make it big in the cricket world, but his injuries did not allow him to maximize his full potential. For the record, Anderson played 13 Test matches, 49 ODIs and 31 T20Is at the international level.

His last appearance for the Blackcaps came against Pakistan in a T20I match that happened in 2018. It seems like Corey will soon play cricket for the United States of America as ESPNCricinfo has reported that the all-rounder is in contention to play for them at the global level.

The reason why Anderson is on the list of USA Cricket is because his fiancee Mary Shamburger is an American. The two lovebirds spent quality time together in Texas this year.

“We want to win cricket games. We want to qualify for World T20s, we want to qualify for World Cups. We want to win cricket matches. By winning cricket matches, we’re able to – we don’t do this very well at the moment, but we need to do this better – we build heroes and role models that are wearing the stars and stripes, and we need to amplify those stories,” USA Cricket CEO told ESPNCricinfo.

Recently, Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders invested in a Major League Cricket franchise of the USA. Now, a former IPL star could play for the USA. It seems like the American team wants to improve its cricket team before the sport possibly makes its Olympics debut.
