CSK CEO confirms MS Dhoni as team captain for IPL 2021
The Chennai Super Kings have unfortunately failed to qualify for the IPL 2020 playoffs, and many fans were questioning if the team management would retain their faith in MS Dhoni after the dubious season. There were also murmurs that this season might be Dhoni’s last one because he was handing over his jerseys to his junior players.
However, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings defended Thala in his recent interview with the Times of India. He believed that the withdrawals of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh coupled with the COVID outbreak in the franchise led to their dismal performance.
There is nothing wrong in what Kasi Viswanathan said because Raina’s absence left a massive hole in the CSK middle order. Until MS Dhoni could find another reliable Indian batsman, the 3-time champions’ campaign had come to an end.
However, the CSK CEO has confirmed that just like every other team, his franchise was allowed to have an off-season once. That does not mean that MS Dhoni had lost his touch or he is no longer capable to lead the team. Here’s what he announced in his latest interview.
“Yes, definitely. I am very confident that Dhoni will lead CSK in 2021. He has won three titles for us in the IPL. This is the first year we have not qualified for the playoffs. No other team has done that. One bad year does not mean we will have to change everything,” said Viswanathan.
It is noteworthy that the Chennai Super Kings’ coach Stephen Fleming had earlier stated that the team had run out of juice. So, there is a huge chance that the management will make colossal changes to the side before the 2021 season. Still, Thala fans should be happy because they will get to see MS Dhoni in the yellow jersey again next year.
