CSK skipper MS Dhoni hints at some big changes before IPL 2021
IPL 2020 playoffs will start soon and it is only the second time in the tournament’s history that MS Dhoni will not be a part of the tourney till then. Generally, when Thala leads the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, the fans believe that IPL is a competition where seven teams fought with each other to decide who will play CSK in the final.
However, 2020 was not the year of the Super Kings as they finished in the bottom half of the standings. Captain MS Dhoni found it tough to form a winning combination in the first ten matches, but the lineup looked settled in the last three matches as CSK ended their campaign with three wins in a row.
Two youngsters, namely Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sam Curran were the biggest positives for the team. Former South African captain Faf du Plessis also did his job well, while Lungi Ngidi proved to be a wicket-taking option. Ravindra Jadeja was the team’s top spin bowling all-rounder, and even Deepak Chahar did fairly well with the ball.
Unfortunately, a few seasoned pros did not click at all for the Chennai-based franchise this year. Skipper MS Dhoni hinted in the last post-match presentation of this year for him that the franchise will aim to make a few changes next year. Here’s what he said:
“You want to keep coming up with different ideas but if the dressing room atmosphere is not happy, it becomes very tough. A lot depends on what the BCCI decides upon the auction. We need to slightly change our core group and look for the next ten years. At the start of the IPL, we made a team and it served well. There comes a time where you have to shift a bit, hand it over to the next generation. We'll come back strong, that's what we are known for. This has been a tough year.”
Thus, MS Dhoni has affirmed that there will be some changes in CSK next year. If a mega auction happens before the 2021 season, it is likely that CSK would change a majority of their players.
