Ravindra Jadeja makes history; becomes only second Indian to join Kapil Dev in an elite list of players

The first day of the third test between India and Australia has ended, and it will not be a wrong statement to say that Australia dominated the entire day. It started with India winning the toss and deciding to bat first, but the Australian spinners bowled pretty well.

As a result, India got dismissed for a low score of 109 runs in 33.2 overs. In reply, Australia ended the day at 156/4 and had taken a lead of 47 runs. Now, they will look to stretch this lead tomorrow to take complete control of the game.

For India, it was Ravindra Jadeja who picked up all four Austalian wickets to fall. He had a mixed day with the ball; he picked up the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne at the start, but it was a no-ball. India also burnt all three reviews when Jadeja was bowling.

However, despite all these, Jadeja was able to register a big record with his name. With his four wickets on Day 1, he joined an elite list of some star all-rounders who have played the game. Jadeja completed his 500th international wicket when he dismissed Australian opener Travis Head, which was his 500th test wicket.

The all-rounder has now taken 503 wickets in 298 international games and has also scored over 5000 international runs. He has scored 5527 runs in 241 innings in his international career across all three formats, including three centuries and 31 half-centuries.

He has joined the legendary Indian all-rounder and 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev on the list and has become only the second Indian player in history to complete the double of 500 international wickets and 5000 international runs. Kapil scored 9031 runs in 356 games with nine centuries and 41 fifties, and also took 687 wickets with a best of 9/83.

Overall, Pakistan's Wasim Akram, Imran Khan, and Shahid Afridi, Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan, New Zealand's Daniel Vettori, England's Ian Botham, South Africa's Shaun Pollock and Jacques Kallis, and Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas have achieved this special feat.
