Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara on verge of achieving special milestones in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The first match of the blockbuster series between India and Australia will kick off in a couple of days. India will lock horns with Australia on Thursday at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The first ever Border-Gavaskar Trophy was played in 1996, which India won.

And now, two of the best sides in the test cricket will face off each other to give fans some mouth-watering contest. Both teams have some of the biggest names in modern-day cricket. Australia has the likes of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Nathan Lyon in their squad.

Meanwhile, India has Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravi Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja who will be in the spotlight. And with the next edition of the BGT series beginning, a number of records will be on the verge of being broken.

The Indian batting duo of Virat and Pujara, in particular, are on the verge of reaching some significant milestones. There is no doubt that the Indian middle order will largely depend on these two in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

The former Indian skipper has scored 1682 runs in 20 games in BGT, while Pujara has 1893 runs to his name in the same number of matches. These two Indian stalwarts are only behind Sachin Tendulkar (3262), Ricky Ponting (2555), VVS Laxman (2434), Rahul Dravid (2416), and Michael Clarke (2049).

However, Virat hasn't had good numbers in the longest cricket for last 2-3 years. He scored his last test century in November 2019 against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens. Since then, he hasn't reached the 100-run mark.

Although he has scored a few centuries in ODIs recently, but he needs to carry on that momentum in the test series. He needs three more centuries to break Sachin's record of 9 hundreds in BGT series. Virat has seven Test centuries in BGT history.

On the other hand, Pujara had decent form and was the leading run-scorer in the two tests against Bangladesh. He scored 222 runs at 74 with one century and one fifty. He would like to carry on his form and enter the top three highest run-getters in the BGT series.
