"He hasn’t learned from his previous mistake" - Ex-Indian legend slams Rishabh Pant over his similar way of getting out
The five-match T20I series between India and South Africa is coming to an exciting end with both teams now winning two matches each. The home team bounced back well after losing the first two games and have now won two matches on the trot. On Friday, they won the fourth game by a big margin of 82 runs.
After failing to defend the target in the first two games, the Indian bowlers did a commendable job in the last two games to restrict the strong South African batting line-up. But the issue for the Indian team is the form of stand-in skipper Rishabh Pant, who once again fell chasing a wide ball in the fourth game.
Former Indian legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has slammed the 24-year-old and has shown concern over his form. Notably, Pant has scored only 57 runs in four games and played an uncharacteristic innings of 17 off 23 balls.
In a discussion on Star Sports, Gavaskar said that Pant hasn't learned from his past mistakes and is getting out again and again to wide balls. He added that the 24-year-old needs to stop chasing the ball outside the off stump, and South Africa had also planned for this.
The former batsman said that the South African bowlers were deliberately bowling him outside the off stump because they knew he would try to reach for the ball and fall in doing so. Gavaskar also pointed out that Pant has got out 10 times the same way in 2022 outside off.
He said that the dismissal he had could have been called a wide if he had left the ball. Concluding the discussion, Gavaskar said, "He will never get enough power on it. To keep getting out in the same series in the same manner, for a captain of the Indian team, that’s not a good sign."
The Indian management will also look into this because the team needs their captain to score some runs because it is not going to happen all the time that other batters will contribute.
