"He could be relieved from T20 captaincy"-  Virender Sehwag's big claim on injury-prone Rohit Sharma's career

Rohit Sharma is the captain of all three formats of Indian cricket and the number of series India plays It becomes very difficult for him to manage the workload. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag also feels that India needs to find a way to manage the workload of the Indian skipper.

However, he also suggested that India can relieve Rohit from the T20 captaincy so that he can take the necessary time to focus on ODI and Test cricket. The 35-year-old took the charge after Virat Kohli stepped down from the captaincy after the last T20I World Cup in the UAE.

In an interaction with the Press Trust of India, the former opener said, "If the Indian team management has someone else in mind as captain in the T20 format, then I think, Rohit (Sharma) could be relieved and the following can be taken into consideration going forward."

Sehwag also stated that it will provide Rohit with more time to manage his workload and fatigue. He also said that a new captain in T20 will also allow the 35-year-old the time to take a break and refresh himself to lead India in both ODI and Test matches.

Notably, earlier in the South African tour, KL Rahul led the Indian team when Rohit got injured. Then, the wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant, led India in the home series against South Africa. Hardik is leading India against Ireland. And now, as Rohit has contacted COVID, we might see another player to lead India against England.

However, Sehwag also pointed out that if India wants to stick with only one captain across the format, then Rohit is the best choice. India will play England in the fifth and final rescheduled test. The Indian team is leading the series 2-1 already and will look to win this match as well.

But it will be difficult for the team as their highest run-scorer, Rohit, will not be available. Although the BCCI has called Mayank Agarwal as the backup opener, it will still be a big task for the Indians.
