Rohit Sharma will miss the rescheduled England Test, Jasprit Bumrah to take the captaincy role: Reports

India is on tour in England for a multi-format series. But before the first match of the tour, the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, returned positive for COVID-19, giving the management a big headache. With only a couple of days left in the match, the biggest worry was who would lead the side in the match.

India and England will lock horns in the fifth and final rescheduled test match from last year, which was postponed due to the COVID outbreak. The match will kick off on Friday, June at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The question regarding the participation of Rohit Sharma in the match is getting cleared up.

As per some media reports, a source from the BCCI has confirmed that Rohit will not be able to take part in the rescheduled test match and will not be able to recover till the start of the game, so he is not going to make it to the playing XI.

The reports further cleared the name of the player who will lead India in the absence of Rohit. As per the source, it will be the ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah who will take the charge against England on June 1.

The visiting team is leading the series 2-1 with one game to go. However, apart from the captaincy, India needs to find the ideal replacement at the top of the order. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Mayank Agarwal as the back-up opener. He will open the innings with Shubman Gill.

Notably, if Bumrah leads the team, he will become only the second pacer after Kapil Dev to lead the Indian side. India will look to win this match in order to win the series. This will be their first series win since 2007 on English soil. But the new England, led by Ben Stokes and coached by Bendon McCullum, appears to be quite dangerous.

It will be an exciting contest to watch between the two teams. If the home team wins the game, they will level the series 2-2.
