Marnus Labuschagne picks his "Top Five" Test Batsmen, put Virat and Babar at interesting spot
Over the years, many legends have played the game of cricket. There have been a number of players that have done an incredible job throughout their careers. But only a few of them ended as legends. Don Bradman, Garfield Sobers, Viv Richards, and Allan Border were some of the icons of the game.
Then the next generation saw the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Brain Lara, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Jacques Kallis, and Inzamam-ul-Haq, who dominated the cricket world. Well, speaking of the last era, there are a few current batting greats who are dominating now.
The current generation of superstars, especially in the Test format, makes an unofficial list called the "fab four", which includes Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson. However, in the last couple of years, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has strongly made his presence felt among the best and has forced everyone to make this list of four to five.
These five batters are among the best in the game, and their red-ball numbers are mind-boggling.However, there have been times when fans compare these batters to each other to see who is the best, but all five of these players have taken this format to another level by performing consistently over the years.
Many former and current cricketers have shared their views about who is the best batsman in the world right now. And without a doubt, they picked the name among these five batters. And now the No. 2 ranked Test batsman, Marnus Labuschagne, has picked his top five batters in the current era in test format.
Labuschagne, who himself is among the best and has performed excellently well in the last few years, hasn't picked his name. In an interaction on News9, he was asked about the best test batsmen in the modern era. He picked up his teammate Steve Smith at the top as his first choice.
Then he picked the former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, followed by Joe Root. On the fourth spot, he chose Pakistani captain Babar Azam, and then New Zealand captain Kane Williamson to round out his top five batsmen.
Notably, among these five batters, Joe Root and Babar Azam have shown incredible form in the recent past. While Steve Smith has done a decent job. However, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson have struggled in the games they have played in the longest format.
