Cheteshwar Pujara joins Sachin Tendulkar in an Elite list of "List A" cricket

The veteran Indian batsman, Cheteshwar Pujara, is currently in England playing in the County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup. He is representing Sussex Cricket Club and has done a tremendous job so far with the bat in his hand.

That is the reason he was chosen as captain of the side in the ongoing Royal London One-Day Cup. And on Tuesday, he smashed a wonderful century in a match against Middlesex at Hove. He showed white-ball batting skills and scored the third century of the ongoing tournament.

Pujara showed a unique side of himself during the game, scoring 132 runs in just 90 balls while hitting 20 fours and two sixes at an incredible strike rate of 146.66. This avatar of the 34-year-old is totally new to fans, who are used to seeing him in the whites, blocking ball after ball.

With this century, he also entered into an elite group of batsmen in List A cricket (which also includes limited overs games in addition to international games as well as ODIs). He completed 5000 List A runs in a total of 111 games and 109 innings at a brilliant average of 57.48.

He also has 14 hundreds and 31 fifties overall, with a high score of 174 runs, which came against Surrey in the ongoing tournament earlier. He is currently the second leading run-scorer in the Royal London One-Day Cup with 614 runs at an incredible average of 102.33, which includes three centuries and two half-centuries.

He was also among the highest run-scorers for Sussex in the County Championship in 2022. He scored 1094 runs in 13 innings at a massive average of 109.40 with a highest score of 231. He scored five centuries in the tournament and ended as the second highest run-getter.

Speaking of the List A cricket history. Some of the greatest batsmen in history have dominated List A cricket. Former English players Gragam Gooch (22,111) and Greame Hick (22,059) are the top two run-scorers in English history. Sachin Tendulkar is third on the list with 21,999 runs. Former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara is next on the list with 19,4565 runs, followed by West Indies legend Viv Richards with 16.995.
