Rohit Sharma registers an incredible world record; equalling Sourav Ganguly in Elite List

On Friday, India registered a blazing win over the world champions, Australia, in the second T20I in Nagpur to level the series at 1-1 with the third and final match to be played on Sunday. The game was reduced to 8 overs per side due to the wet outfield, and it was a run-feast for the batsmen.

A total of 160 runs was scored within 16 overs and some cameos were played by both sides. And the "Man of the Match" was none other than the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, who took the game deep and finished the game for the hosts.

He remained unbeaten on 46* off just 20 balls, including four boundaries and four maximums. Australia set a target of 91 runs and India made 92/4 with four balls to spare, with a six and a four to finish off the game off the bat of Dinesh Karthik.

Thus, Rohit won the "Player of the Match" award for his sparkling innings to set the tone for a tricky chase. However, with this knock, Rohit has surpassed Martin Guptill's record for most T20I sixes (176). The Indian skipper (176) has hit the most sixes in T20 internationals now.

Chris Gayle (124), Eoin Morgan (120) and Aaron Finch (119) are next on the list. Speaking in the post-match presentation after winning the MOTM, Rohit said that he surprised himself with the way he batted.

Notably, Rohit also equalled the record of BCCI President and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly for winning the most "Man of the Match" awards for India. It was the 37th MOTM award for Rohit and he is just behind Sachin Tendulakr (76) and Virat Kohli (58).

With the series level at 1-1, both teams will not travel to Hyderbad for the series decider. The third and final T20I will take place on Sunday at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad at 7 PM.
