Watch: Virat Kohli doing some "Superman" things on the field in 1st practise game vs Australia
The first warm-up match between India and Australia ended in a dream finish for the Men in Blue, and they pulled off an unbelievable win through Australia's pocket. In the end, India won the game by just 6 runs, taking six wickets in the last two overs.
In fact, India dismissed four wickets off the last four balls of the match to resgiter a 6-run win over the defending champions. India showed a brilliant display of death bowling by Harshal Patel and Mohammed Shami. But the fielding from India was equally good.
And it was none other than the former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, who led the fielding unit by example and had some amazing performances on the field. It all started with the 19th over of the innings. Australia needed 16 runs to win from two overs and with six wickets in hand.
All the odds were in their favour, but Harshal started the 19th over with the wicket of Australian skipper Aaron Finch, who was batting at 79 off 54, which brought wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis to the crease. On the second ball, Inglis dabbed the ball and tried to sneak a single to bring Tim David to the crease.
The ball went to leg-side and Virat was on to the ball in a flash. He grabbed the ball with his right hand and aimed at the stumps in one motion. He hit the stumps and David was run out in a brilliant piece of work from the former Indian skipper.
Those two fielding efforts certainly were one of the reasons that India pulled off a close win from nowhere. Defending 11 runs, Shami conceded 4 runs and took four wickets, including a run out. Thus, with this win, India might be happy with the way bowlers and fielders responded.
Now they will play their next game against New Zealand on Wednesday (October 19) at the same venue. The first match for India is on October 23 against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
