Australia names hard-hitting all-rounder as replacement for injured Josh Inglis for T20 WC

The T20 World Cup 2022 is underway in Australia. The defending champions themselves will defend their title at home and, being a host, Australia are firm favourites to win the title a second time around. The Aussies have got the best set of players with some firepower in their batting department.

However, they suffered a big blow when wicket-keeper batsman Josh Inglis was ruled out of the tournament on Wednesday because of a freak injury he suffered while playing golf. He injured his hand while playing golf on Wednesday in Sydney.

And now, Cricket Australia (CA) has announced the replacement for the wicket-keeper batter. Surprisingly, they haven't gone for any other wicket-keeper. Instead, they have picked hard-hitting all-rounder Cameron Green, who was part of the reserve team for the tournament.

The all-rounder has played seven T20 internationals for Australia and was part of the three-match T20I series against India. He ended up being the highest run-getter in the series with two half-centuries, including an 18-ball fifty in the third T20I.

However, the player's replacement needs approval from the Event Technical Committee ahead of the official confirmation of the replacement. And the Event Technical Committee has approved the replacement.

Australia will play their first game against the runners-up from the last edition, New Zealand. It will be a virtual rematch of the 2021 World Cup final. Australia is placed in Group 2, along with England, New Zealand, Afghanistan and two other qualifying teams. They will lock horns with the Black Caps on Saturday (October 22) at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney.
