Here's what will happen if Semifinal or Final game of T20 WC gets rained out

The ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia has produced some amazing performances so far. We have seen small teams cause major upsets against the big teams. But one thing that has surely created a lot of headaches is the rain.

Rain has certainly affected some of the games in this tournament. A total of 5-6 games have been affected majorly by the rain in the ongoing tournament, and among these, three have been called off without a ball being bowled. Well, such a game was between England and Ireland, which ended in favor of Ireland because of rain.

The called-off game saw both teams share one point each in the group stage of the competition. But what if the rain interrupts the game in the knockout stage? The two semi-finals will take place on November 9 and 10 at the SCG and Adelaide Oval, respectively, while the final will be played on November 13 at the MCG.

So as per the rules, if the semi-final or final get rained out, there are reserve days for these games at the same venue. The game on reserve day will start from the same point where it got stopped on the scheduled day.

However, if it also rains on reserve day and it gets washed out, then the team that finished at the top of the points table in their group will qualify directly to the finals. The semi-finals will be played between the table topper (Group 1) vs 2nd-ranked (Group 2) and table-topper (Group 2) vs 2nd-ranked (Group 1).

The final match, which is scheduled to take place on November 13 (Sunday) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, also has a reserve day. But if it gets rained out on the reserve day as well, then both finalists will be declared joint winners of the tournament.

Just like in the 2002 Champions Trophy, when India and Sri Lanka met in the finals of the competition and play couldn't start on both days, including the reserve day. As a result, India and Sri Lanka were announced as the joint winners of CT 2022.
