Despite injury Rohit Sharma scripts history; becomes the first Indian to achieve this milestone

On Wednesday, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma played a brilliant knock in the second ODI game against Bangladesh in Dhaka. Coming out to bat at No. 8, Rohit smashed a 27-ball half-century, but in the end, India fell short by 5 runs.

He remained unbeaten on 51 off 28 balls, with three fours and five sixes. Despite an injury to his left thumb, Rohit almost pulled off an incredible chase. It didn't end in favor of India, but everyone lauded the effort made by Rohit.

During his inning, he also reached a milestone and had his name entered into the record book. Rohit hit five sixes and scored at a strike rate of 182.14. Rohit has completed 500 sixes in international cricket and has reached 502 sixes overall.

Notably, veteran West Indian opener Chris Gayle is at the top of the list, having hit a total of 553 sixes in international cricket. And the Indian skipper is now at the second spot and the only Indian and Asian to hit over 500 sixes at the highest level.

The list includes former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi (476 sixes), former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum (398 sixes), and New Zealand star Martin Guptill (383 sixes).

Speaking of the game, batting first, the hosts were struggling at 69/6 in 18.6 overs when Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took them out of their misery. Both batters added 149 runs for the seventh wicket. Mahmudullah scored 77 runs, while Miraz scored his maiden ODI century.

He remained unbeaten on 100 off 83 balls, with eight fours and four sixes. Bangladesh made 271/7 in their first innings. In reply, India lost their first four wickets for just 65 runs in 18.3 overs.

But after that, Shreyas Iyer (82) and Axar Patel (56) added 107 runs for the fifth wicket. But in the end, despite Rohit's blittz, India fell short by five runs. Now both teams will play the third ODI on Saturday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
