How Rashid Khan's mother motivated him to never quit cricket
Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has achieved many feats in his brief cricketing career. The Sunrisers Hyderabad star was one of the first players from his nation to earn an IPL deal. He has been an integral part of the league since then, and apart from that, he has also captained his country at the international level.
Khan’s leg-spin bowling has forced the batsmen to play against their natural game. The frequency of dot balls becomes much higher when Khan comes to bowl in the middle. Under that pressure, the batsmen try to attack him and then lost their wickets.
Recently, Rashid had bowled a dream spell of 3/7 against the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. His magnificent spell ensured that the Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match comfortably and kept their campaign alive in IPL 2020.
The Orange Army shared a video on social media after that spell, where Rashid Khan disclosed that he had almost quit cricket once. However, his mother motivated him and then he became one of the world’s best cricketers. Rashid’s brother told him to focus on studies after the selectors dropped him from the Afghanistan-A squad.
Here’s how Rashid narrated his story:
"I was picked in the Afghanistan-A team, I joined the camp but did not get any games. I was dropped from the squad. I was about to leave cricket as well. My brother was really angry and he told me you should leave cricket and go focus on your studies. I then called my mother and she told me to just go and enjoy your game. Whatever the result is, if you don't make it tomorrow, you will make it someday,.”
In 2015, Rashid Khan played a domestic tournament, where he picked up 21 wickets. Subsequently, he earned a spot on the national team, and then, as they say, the rest is history. Many young players should learn this thing and keep on pursuing their dream until they achieve success.
