ICC confirms 8 teams for T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 Round, Sri Lanka and West Indies misses out

 

The International Cricket Council (ICC), has officially confirmed the names of the 8 countries that will play in the T20 World Cup 2022 next year to be played in Australia.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2021, hosted by India, but being played in UAE and in Oman, is all but on towards its end with Semi-Finals now fast approaching. And the ICC has just now confirmed the names of the 8 teams who have qualified directly to the Super 12 Round of the T20 World Cup 2022.

The ICC posted a report in the official site of the T20 World Cup, where they clearly mentioned that 8 teams from this year's Super 12 round will make it to the Super 12 stage next year.

Among those 8 teams will be the winner of the T20 World Cup 2021 and the runner-up. They will be joined by the host nation Australia. Other than these 3 teams, 5 other teams from top 8 ranking in the Men's T20I Ranking on as of 15th November will qualify directly.

In total, the all 8 teams who have qualified for the T20 World Cup 2022 are, England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

The major names that are missing from the 8 teams list are 2016's T20 World Champion West Indies and 2014's T20 World Champion Sri Lanka, as the report suggests that these teams will be on 10th and 9th spot in the T20I Ranking respectively, which will be published on the 15th of November after the T20 World Cup 2021.

Bangladesh, who came through the round 1 this year, have now qualified directly to the Super 12 for next year due to their home series win against Australia and New Zealand mean that they will now slot into the 8th spot T20I Ranking.

Sri Lanka and West Indies are struggling to perform to its full capacity as both of teams' Golden Generation is now gone. Both the teams currently finds themselves on the bottom of the Top 10 in T20I Ranking.

The ICC has also confirmed that Scotland and Namibia, who came to the Super 12 round from round 1 along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, have been given slot in the Round 1 of the T20 World Cup 2022 as a result of them making it to the Super 12 round.

Sri Lanka, West Indies, Scotland and Namibia will be joined by 4 other teams in the Round 1 who will qualify through the Qualifiers.

T20 World Cup 2022 Details

T20 World Cup 2022 will be hosted by Australia at this very same time. The tournament will continue to use the same format that is being used in T20 World Cup 2021. 16 teams will participate in the main competition, 8 will play round 1, of which, 4 will make it past to the Super 12 and will join the top 8 teams who have qualified directly to the Super 12 round.
