"ICC honors list is just a reflection"- Harsha Bhogle names the two brightest talents in world cricket
Famous Indian cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle has heaped praise on Pakistan’s duo of Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, saying that the ICC awards just reflect how excellent they have been over the last few months.
Both Azam and Afridi won big at the ICC Awards 2021. While Azam was named the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year, Afridi took home the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.
Commenting on the big win for the Pakistani cricketers, Harsha Bhogle wrote on Twitter:
"Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi are two of the brightest talents in world cricket. The ICC honours list is just a reflection of that. And you can't do more than Rizwan did in T20 cricket. Encouraging signs for cricket in Pakistan."
Apart from Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan’s name was also present on the ICC Awards 2021 list. The wicket-keeper batter was named the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the year 2021.
Pakistan’s trio will aim to continue in same vein in 2022
2021 was a memorable year for the Pakistan cricket team as their cricketers performed exceptionally. They managed to win their first-ever ICC World Cup match against the Indian cricket team. However, they failed to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 trophy.
The Pakistan cricket team has a packed schedule for 2022. The team’s stars will be in action, playing in the Pakistan Super League soon, and after that, the Australian cricket team will visit the nation for a historic tour.
The Pakistan cricket team will aim to win ICC T20 World Cup 2022, but it will be a tough challenge for them this time around because they are in the same group as inaugural champions India and the in-form South African side. Bangladesh and two more qualifiers complete the group.
