Sachin Tendulkar turns 50: SCG unveiled a gate named after his name as a special birthday mark

On Monday, the legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar turns 50. As a result, the wishes of countless former cricketers, analysts, and cricket pundits started pouring in from all across the globe. And on his 50th birthday, the Sydney Cricket Ground also unveiled a gate named after Sachin on Monday.

Tendulkar, who turned 50 on Monday, has made three centuries along with 785 runs and a highest score of 241 not out (in 2004) in the five Tests he has played at the SCG, while he is averaging 157 at what he described as his favourite cricket ground away from home.

In a statement by the SCG, it said, "The Sydney Cricket Ground has been my favourite ground away from India. I have had some great memories at the SCG right from my first tour of Australia in 1991-92."

The Lara-Tendulkar Gates, located between the Players Pavilion's away dressing room and the Noble Bradman Messenger Stand, will be used by all players from the visiting teams for entering the ground. A plaque explaining the Lara-Tendulkar Gates, the feats of the two legends, and their records at the SCG was also set up.

After this honour, Sachin said, "It is a great honour to have the gates used by all visiting cricketers to access the field of play at the SCG named after me and my good friend Brian. I would like to thank the team at the SCG and Cricket Australia and for this kind gesture. I look forward to visiting the SCG soon."
