KL Rahul goes past Virat and Rohit to achieve a stunning T20 milestone but couldn't break Babar's record

Gujarat Titans are taking on the Lucknow Super Giants in the first game of the double header on Saturday at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. It was GT that won the toss and decided to bat first on a sluggish wicket.

But that decision totally backfired on them, as the GT batters looked rusty and struggled against the LSG bowlers. In the end, they only reached a below-par score of 135/6 in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya made the most runs and scored a 41-ball half-century. He made 66 off 50 balls.

Wriddhiman Saha also contributed well with his 37-ball 47. In reply, LSG got off to a good start at the top, with both openers scoring 55 runs for the first wicket in 6.3 overs. Kyle Mayers got out after scoring 24 off 19, but skipper KL Rahul kept going and scored a vital half-century.

With his half-century, Rahul achieved a big milestone in the shorter format and completed 7000 runs in T20s. He also wrote his name in the record books as he became only the first Indian batter to score 7000 T20 runs within 200 games. He touched this landmark in his 197th inning.

He went past former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, current skipper Rohit Sharma, and veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan to become the fastest to do so. Virat did it in 212 innings; Dhawan (246) and Rohit (258) are the third and fourth fastest on this list, respectively.

Speaking of the overall record, Pakistani skipper Babar Azam is the fastest player to touch this feat. He completed his 7000 career runs in 187 innings, while Gayle is second with 192 innings, which means Rahul is the third fastest overall. Earlier, the LSG skipper also completed his 4000 runs in his IPL career and did it in just 105 innings, going past Gayle's record of 112 IPL innings.
