Kumar Sangakkara gives heart-touching advice to Dhoni after IPL 2020
Former Sri Lanka cricket team captain and legend Kumar Sangakkara think Mahendra Singh Dhoni needs to play some competitive cricket in order to get back in the form before the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League.
The Chennai Super Kings captain has so far scored 200 runs in the 14 matches, and his team currently in 7th place of the table. It has been a year to forget for the former Indian captain.
Dhoni has not played competitive cricket for a long time. The last time the wicketkeeper-batsman played cricket was back in 2019 in the World Cup. After India was eliminated from the semi-final of the World Cup, Dhoni has since taken a long break. He didn't feature in the series against Bangladesh, West Indies, and New Zealand.
With IPL 2020 scheduled for the start at the end of March, MS Dhoni was training with the CSK team in Chepauk. But due to the COVID-19, the IPL 2020 was postponed indefinitely, thus, Dhoni had to return home.
He finally started training when the team reached UAE for the IPL 2020, but that long gap of over one year has played a major role in Dhoni's performance this season.
In a post-match show after the Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders match, Kumar Sangakkara said, “He will, of course, be disappointed with his personal form but with only 2 games to go, I don’t think there is any point in trying to salvage that. It’s about winning games. He can address it after he goes and comes back next year."
He further added, “But what he has to do is to play some more super-competitive cricket in between. You can’t have long gaps between your IPL seasons, not playing international cricket, or not playing regional or first-class cricket. He has got to be super competitive and play competitive cricket to be in form.”
