Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill create an unique record with a 212-run partnership vs NZ in 3rd ODI

The third and final ODI between India and New Zealand is underway at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first. After winning the first two games, India already had an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

India went in with a few changes to the playing XI. Umran Malik and Yuzi Chahal returned to the team, while Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami were the two to be rested. However, India got a flying start from both openers in the third game as well.

The hosts got off to an unexpected start with the bat. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who scored a half-century in the last game, has scored his 30th ODI century, which came after three years. He scored his last ODI century on January 19, 2020.

He played some brilliant shots and scored his century on just 83 balls. Although, he got out just after scoring his century, he made 101 off 85 balls, with nine fours and six sixes. Rohit added 212 runs with Shubman Gill, who also carried on his purple patch with the bat.

Gill also scored his fourth ODI century, and he did it even quicker. Gill reached this milestone off just 72 balls. He struck 13 fours and four maximums in his inning. It was yet another century stand between the two Indian batters. Both openers added 60 and 72 in the first two games of the series, and it was their fifth 50-plus stand in just six innings, which is the best for any pair in the first six innings.

Meanwhile, Rohit who struck six maximums in his knock, has now become the third-most six hitter in the 50-over format. He went past Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya's tally of 270 sixes in ODIs. Rohit has now hit 273 sixes in his ODI career. He is just behind Shahid Afrida (351) and Chris Gayle (331).
