MI named Australian Speedster as Jhye Richardson's replacement to strengthen their bowling attack in IPL 2023
The batting failed miserably, and the bowlers also underperformed. Meanwhile, the five-time champions are also struggling with injuries to some of their key players. Jasprit Bumrah is already not part of the squad. They suffered another blow when the Australian pacer Jhye Richardson was ruled out.
He suffered a hamstring injury. However, the franchise has announced his replacement. On Thursday, MI replaced Richardson with his countrymen and signed Riley Meredith for their squad. Meredith was part of MI in IPL 2022 and also played eight games, picking up eight wickets.
The franchise has signed the pacer at his base price of INR 1.5 crore. He will join the team ahead of the clash against the Chennai Super Kings. Meredith went unsold in the 2023 IPL auction in December. He has also played five T20Is for Australia and taken eight wickets at an economy rate of 9.98.
His economy in the IPL is also on the higher side, at more than nine per over with nine wickets in his IPL career. The franchise would hope there would be no more injuries to any player on the team. Earlier, the franchise named Sandeep Warrier as Bumrah's replacement.
After losing to RCB, Mumbai will lock horns with archrivals CSK on Saturday, April 7 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Meanwhile, MI fans will want to see their stars come good against CSK, which is certainly the biggest game for them in the competition.
MI even had a horrible season in 2022. They finished last on the points table with only four wins out of 14 and lost their first eight games in a row, becoming the first team to get eliminated. Thus, Rohit Sharma and his men will look to bounce back well in this season.
