MS Dhoni reveals the reason behind gifting jerseys to other players
The Chennai Super Kings have been knocked out of IPL 2020 before the playoffs, but the 3-time champions ended their campaign on a positive note by registering a hat-trick of wins in their last three matches. They defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the Kings XI Punjab to spoil their party.
MS Dhoni has confirmed that he will continue to play for the Chennai Super Kings even in the coming seasons. When Danny Morrison asked him if the match against the Mohali-based franchise was his last one, Dhoni replied ‘Definitely Not’ and those two words trended on Twitter for a long time.
Speaking of Thala Dhoni, the reason why everyone thought he may quit the IPL is because he was handing over jerseys to his junior players of the other teams. The likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Jos Buttler, and a few other KKR players were lucky enough to receive an autographed jersey from the CSK captain.
In the post-match presentation after the match against the Kings XI Punjab, MS Dhoni revealed why he was giving jerseys to his junior cricketers. He cleared the air and said that because he retired from international cricket, the others believed that he would retire from IPL also. However, that was simply not the case.
Here’s what MS Dhoni said:
“Maybe they thought I am retiring, you know. I retired from international cricket, so they might be thinking I am retiring from IPL as well,” Dhoni said.
The Chennai Super Kings fans hope that the pandemic ends soon so that they can witness their leader playing in front of their eyes at Chepauk. Although Dhoni has not retired now, the age factor is likely to stop him from playing if one thinks about the next five-ten years. It seems like Dhoni wants to sign off in style with an epic performance in front of a packed house.
