Mushfiqur Rahim publicly apologizes to teammate after Banghabandhu T20 Cup controversy

Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim landed in a controversy after he almost beat his teammate in a Banghabandhu T20 Cup match. The explosive middle-order batsman stood behind the stumps with his gloves on.

Opposition batsman Afif Hussain mistimed a ball high in the air. The wicket-keeper Rahim and thirdman fielder Nasum tried to catch the same ball. Ultimately, Mushfiqur caught it. However, he was very unhappy with his teammate because his interference could have resulted in a dropped catch.

Rahim was so furious that he tried to hit Nasum with a punch. The video of this incident went viral on all social media platforms. However, being a sportsman, Mushfiqur Rahim has publicly apologized for his mistakes.

He shared a photo with his teammate on Facebook and wrote:

“First of all officially I would like to apologize to all my fans and spectators regarding the incident that happened yesterday during the match. I have already apologized after the game to my fellow team mate Nasum. Secondly I seek forgiveness from Almighty. I always remember I am a human being above all and the gesture that I have shown was not acceptable at all.”

Mushfiqur Rahim concluded by saying that he would not repeat this mistake on the field or outside the ground ever in his career.

The Banghabandhu T20 Cup has revived domestic cricket in Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi team has improved a lot in the last few years, but they have still not returned to international cricket after the COVID-19 break.

Mushfiqur Rahim’s team Beximco Dhaka won the Eliminator match against Fortune Barishal. They have now progressed to the Qualifier 2 match. It will be interesting to see if Dhaka could advance to the final and win the Banghabandhu T20 Cup 2020.

Besides, Rahim has won the hearts of fans in Bangladesh with the Facebook post today.
