Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav called up for England series

The cricketing action continues as the Indian cricket team is set to play England in a five-match Test series from this August month. On the other hand, another Indian cricket team is away in Sri Lanka playing limited-overs series.

The Indian cricket team in England dealt a significant blow as opening batsman Shubman Gill got injured earlier. Later, it was announced that pacer Avesh Khan and all-rounder Washington Sundar have also suffered an injury.

And according to a report on the Indian Express, the team management in England has asked Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jayant Yadav to be sent as replacements for the injured player.

Shubman Gill suffered an injury way before and has returned home already. When Gill got injured, the team management asked for a replacement which the selectors declined; however, with the number of injured players increasing, the BCCI and the selectors have agreed to send over the asked players.

Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar are currently with the Indian cricket team playing in Sri Lanka in the limited-overs format. India won the One Day International series 2-1. T20I will be played from 25th July onwards.

Prithvi Shaw will be a like-for-like replacement of Shubman Gill while Suryakumar Yadav has also been called due to reportedly Indian test cricket team's vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has suffered from a bit of hamstring thus, Suryakumar Yadav will a replacement Rahane if needed.

No fast bowler has been called up to replace Avesh Khan as Indian team management believes that the team has enough pacers in the squad, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammad Siraj.

Prithvi Shaw made his Test cricket debut in 2018 against West Indies. Ever since then, the Indian opener has played 5 Test matches and has scored 339 runs. Jayant Yadav has also before played for the Indian national cricket team. Jayant Yadav has played 4 Test matches, in which he has 11 wickets and 228 runs, while it will be the first-ever call-up to the Test team for Suryakumar Yadav.
